Biggest thing with meat pens is keeping a schedule and feed amounts. Fresh food and water at ALL times until closer to show. Families I've known that have won had each one in its own cage and they basically weighed weekly and feed based off of the weight we wanted to keep them all with a few oz of each other, then once it got closer to the show we weighed daily and cranked down on the feed. Work your fur. And when you pick out your pen try and get them all to be same conformation. Top weight for Hunt County is 5 1/2 lbs. 1/2 a lb is 8 oz. : ) Postal scales work great for weighing rabbits. Don't forget to clear your basket out before you put the rabbit in.
Something else I have noticed a lot of the meat pens that the kids that are over handling the rabbits treating them more like pets don’t show as well as those that don’t work with them as much. You want the rabbits to set up for the judge but you kind of want them to be a little nervous so they firm up if they’re so used to being loved all over them they’re more relaxed and their muscles won’t be as tight.
